Center of Molecular Neurobiology (Hamburg) ZMNH (Zentrum für Molekulare Neurobiologie, Center of Molecular Neurobiology, Hamburg). The University of Hamburg and the University Hospital have shown remarkable engagement in establishing the ZMNH as a center of excellence in the neurosciences. This center provides a high quality of education for graduate students at a cutting-edge level. The ZMNH consists of four institutes and five research groups supported by state of the art technical service groups for purposes such as electronmicroscopy, confocal microscopy, transgenic mouse facilities, DNA sequencing, mass spectrometry, array analysis. Since its foundation in 1986, the ZMNH has attracted a large number of highly motivated PhD students working in the fields of developmental neurobiology, nerve degeneration and regeneration, genetically based neurodegenerative disorders, ion channel function and neuronal excitability, learning and memory. The scientists of the ZMNH have established close ties with preclinical and clinical institutes at the University hospital as well as with other institutions. Part of the collaborative research of the ZMNH with the other institutes is funded by special research programs (Sonderforschungsbereiche, Graduate School, Post-Graduate training) of the German Research council. This provides an environment of top-level research, where all researchers also take part in teaching and guidance.
