Metro is fast and the hotel is easy to find (see Map). Airport Bus 13 or the Microbus K13 takes you to end stop Metro "Moskovskaya" (12 min), then use the Metro map.
Taxi A pickup from the airport arranged by Hotel Shelfort is about 1000 roubles (March 2006) added to your hotel bill. Another way is to print out the address sheet take it with you and ask the driver to fill in the price. Alternatively contact the Taxi Office in the International Airport Arrival Hall.
Note, that Tempus rules do not support taxi travel on top of per diems. Taxi travel should be taken from per diems as a local cost, excepting special conditions like very late arrival etc. Other travel tickets (air, train) are of course reimbursed on top of per diems as real costs.
Metro
The Metro fare is 12 roubles (March 2006), no restrictions in time or changing lines. Buy a jeton or card at the cashier. At city Centre stations be aware of pick pockets if you look like a tourist. For Vasileostrovskaya, change line at station Gostiny Dvor or Alexandra Nevskogo when arriving by air or train respectively.
The easiest way to take care of your travel arrangements and Russian visas is to contract a travel agent to do this for you. Most Finnish tour operators will also be able to bill the HU directly, saving you time and hassle with reimbursement claims. We have made good experience with individual tours by FinnSov Tours (www.finnsov.info) as well as with acquiring visas via Rustravel (www.rustravel.fi). Please, let us know if you have any other recommendations.
In addition some of the hotels may be able to assist you in visa preparation.
